Laura Muir Plans 800- and 1,500-Meter Double After Winning 800 at British ChampionshipsBy Adam Kopet Laura Muir plans to double at the European Athletics Outdoor Championships in August, according to EuroSport. Muir, of Great Britain, is no stranger to doubling at championship meets. Last year at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships, she ran the 1,500 and 5,000 meters, just missing a medal in each. Earlier this year, Muir competed in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters at the IAAF World Indoor Championships, earning medals in both. This weekend, Muir won the 800 at the British Championships, running 2:01.22. The top two athletes in each event at the British Championships will be selected for the Great Britain team for the European Athletics Outdoor Championships. Additional entries are up to the discretion of UK Athletics. Muir has asked UK Athletics to enter her in the 800 and 1,500. There was some controversy surrounding Muir's entrance in the 800 at the British Championships. Apparently her name did not appear on the entry list until the night before the preliminary round, according to Sean Ingle of the Guardian. UK Athletics provided the Guardian with evidence that Muir was not a late addition to the event, but the Guardian did not report a reason for the late addition of Muir on the start list. More news |
