Torrey Olson Announced as New Head Coach for Track and Field and Cross Country at Cal State San MarcosBy Adam Kopet The athletic department at Cal State San Marcos announced last week that Torrey Olson will replace Steve Scott as head coach of the track and field and cross country programs. Scott started the CSUSM program in 1999 and he coached there for 19 years before he retired at the end of the 2018 track and field season. As an athlete, Scott captured a silver medal in the 1,500 meters at the 1983 IAAF World Outdoor Championships. He also held the American mile record from 1982 to 2007 with a time of 3:47.69. Olson comes to the Cougars from the Academy of Art in San Francisco. In his three years at the Academy of Art, his athletes earned 50 All-American honors at the NCAA Division 2 level. Prior to coaching at the Academy of Art, Olson coached at the University of San Francisco and Pomona-Pitzer. In addition to his collegiate coaching, Olson works with a number of post-collegiate athletes, including 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier Crosby Freeman. More news |
