Fast Sprints Highlight This Week's Performance of the Week ListThis week we saw some stellar performances, especially in the sprints. We saw two collegiate records, two world U-20 records and numerous all-time ranked performances at every level of competition. Most notable of competitions this week was the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships. There were also top performances at the Great Southwest Classic. Jan'Taijah Ford: The high school senior from Northeast (Oakland Park) FL won the 400 meters at the Great Southwest Classic in 51.57, ranking her 11th on the prep all-time performer list. (Results). Sara Hall: The distance runner won the USATF Women's 10 km Championships at the NYRR New York Mini 10K by five seconds, running 32:27. (Results). Watch the race. Grant Holloway: The Florida junior ran a collegiate record to win the 110-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships in a world leading 12.98. He also ran a leg on the collegiate record 4x100 relay (37.97) and a 43.75 anchor on the second-place 4x400 relay. (Results). Sinclaire Johnson: The Oklahoma State junior won the 1,500 meters at the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships in a meet record 4:05.98, good for second on the collegiate all-time list. (Results). Chris Nilsen: The South Dakota junior won the pole vault at the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships in a meet record 19-6.25 (5.95m), ranking him third on the collegiate all-time list. (Results). Michael Norman: The sprinter ran a world leading 19.70 for 200 meters at the Rome Diamond League meeting, ranking him 12th on the all-time performer list. (Results). Divine Oduduru: The Texas Tech junior ran 9.86 and 19.73 to win the 100 and 200 meters at the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships. Both performances rank him second on the collegiate all-time lists. (Results). Sha'Carri Richardson: The LSU freshman broke the world U-20 records in the 100 meters at the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships in 10.75. She also produced the fastest low-altitude 200-meter performance in World U-20 history by running 22.17. The 100-meter time was a collegiate record. She finished second in the 200. (Results). Justin Robinson: The high school junior from Hazelwood West MO won the 400 meters at the Great Southwest Classic in 44.84, ranking him second on the prep all-time list. (Results). Briana Williams: The high school junior from Northeast (Oakland Park) FL won the 100 meters at the Great Southwest Classic in 11.02, ranking her second on the prep all-time list. It was also a junior class record and lowered the Jamaican U-20 record. Williams also won the 200 meters in 22.88. (Results). More news |
