Brooke Rauber, a senior at Tully High in New York and a North Carolina State commit, became the youngest female winner in the 30-year history of the Boston Mayor’s Cup, covering the 5-kilometer course at Franklin Park in 17 minutes, 42.3 seconds Saturday during a socially distant event that saw competitors split into three sections.

Allie Hackett, 25, an Abilene Christian graduate representing Boston Athletic Association, was second in 18:16.

Rauber, 18, improved on the previous-best finish by a teenager, which was achieved last year by Margot Appleton of Portsmouth Abbey High in Rhode Island. Appleton, who finished second at last year’s event in 17:14, placed fifth Saturday in 18:37.7.

Sydney Masciarelli, the 2018 Foot Locker national champion from Marianapolis Prep in Connecticut, ran 17:04 that year to place fourth. She also placed fourth last year in 17:18.

The fastest time achieved by a teenage female competitor in event history remains Mary Cain, at age 19, clocking 16:46 to finish third in 2015.

The men’s competition, usually an 8-kilometer race, was amended to a 5-kilometer event, with 25-year-old Kevin Kelley prevailing in 14:56.3 out of the second section. Tim McGowan, 25, was second overall in 15:19.5.
