Rupp, Osako To Race Half Marathon Friday Near EugenePublished by
Eugene Marathon Organizers Have Set Up Course In Undisclosed Location By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon winner Galen Rupp, the 2016 bronze medalist, is apparently ready to race for the first time since his victory in Atlanta. According to a report by Ken Goe of The Oregonian, Rupp has asked former training partner and Japanese marathon record holder Suguru Osako to join him in the 13.1-mile race Friday, believed to be somewhere outside Eugene in Lane County. Rupp won his second straight U.S. Marathon Trials race in February in Atlanta by 43 seconds – in 2 hours, 9 minutes, 20 seconds. Since departing from long-time coach Alberto Salazar, Rupp has been training mostly from home with guidance from Northern Arizona coach Mike Smith. Osako, part of coach Pete Julian's Nike group, has been recently training in Flagstaff, Ariz. More news |
