William & Mary Reinstates Cut Sports, Including Men's Indoor and Outdoor TrackPublished by
College Of William & Mary Reverses Course On Sports Cuts By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Mounting pressure, much of it coming from within the athletic department, caused the College of William & Mary to backtrack on its announcement that it would make significant cuts to the number of teams. First, the college said it would cut seven sports but then later decided that it would keep three of the women's programs on the list, on Oct. 19. On Thursday, the men's indoor and outdoor track and field program was saved, along with men's swimming and men's gymnastics. The announcement came just a couple of weeks after 26 members of the women's track and field team signed a letter indicating they would boycott the 2021 seasons unless school officials were transparent about the decision-making process that went into the cuts and reinstated the men's teams.
