Muskego High and Middleton High, schools that won state cross country titles in Wisconsin last year, will not be competing in the same season in 2020-21. Muskego coaches CJ Michaud and Katrina Beeck, and Middleton coach Brian Finnel, meet up with DyeStat editor Doug Binder to discuss the complicated situation unfolding across Wisconsin, where individual districts are making decisions about how to proceed with education and school sports during the pandemic. Muskego's girls are the 2018 and 2019 state champions and are due to open the season this weekend and start in-person classes Sept. 1. Middleton, a member of the Big 8 Conference, has known since late July that fall sports are canceled. Middleton and nearly 50 other large schools in the state are hoping that the March-to-May alternative season for cross country works out.
