Katelyn Tuohy Earns Both of This Week's Performance of the Week Awards

Track and field fans voiced their choices in this week's DyeStat's Performance of the Week poll, while DyeStat's editors made their own selection.

Readers’ Choice: Katelyn Tuohy

With 26.87 percent of the vote, Katelyn Tuohy won our Readers’ Choice vote, beating Justyn Knight with his second-place tally of 18.16 percent.

The North Rockland NY sophomore has done it again. Tuohy has been impressive in her two previous races this season with times that would have had her finish fourth or better in the boys races.

The HOKA One One Manhattan Invitational was Tuohy's first big test of the season and she more than passed. Racing in the Varsity C race, her time of 13:21 broke Jessica Lawson's course record by 32 seconds on the Van Cortlandt Park 2.5-mile course.

Editors’ Choice: Katelyn Tuohy

There were many good performances this week. At the college level, Justyn Knight of Syracuse beat Grant Fisher  of Stanford at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. A day later, Elinor Purrier of New Hampshire beat Karissa Schweizer of Missouri at the NCAA D1 Pre-National Invitational.

And at the high school level, there were top performances across the country.

However, this week's Editors' Choice award goes to Tuohy. She took off from the gun, leaving the rest of the field far behind her. By the time Tuohy crossed the bridge for the second time, she had more than a minute lead on second place in the Varsity C race.

In the end, Tuohy finished in 13:21, winning the race by 95 seconds. She would have beat Claire Walters of Fayetteville-Manlius NY by 52 seconds, had she run in the Eastern States Championship race. Making Tuohy's run even more impressive, she would have placed 48th in the boys Eastern States Championship race.

Watch Tuohy's race.

It appears we will need to wait until next month for Tuohy to race the other top girl in New York,  junior Kelsey Chmiel of Saratoga Springs. Last year Chmiel won all four matchups. However, this is a new season and anything can happen.
