Will Lauer dips under 9 at state meet

 

State Meet Highlights

 
In South Dakota, the AA, A and B class prelims are held in separate locations and then everyone came together for the championship finals in Rapid City.



Top Performances:

 
- Sophomore Cortney Dowling of T.F. Riggs in Pierre was the star of the AA championships, sweeping the 100 (12.15), 200 (25.37) and 400 (55.11). She became the fastest 400-meter runner in state history with that race. In 2013 she won two out of the three, but added the 400 as a sophomore.

 
- Ipswich freshman Macy Heinz won the Class B 100, 400, 800 and 1600 (12.51/57.10/2:17.09/5:13.53) in a staggering display of range.

 
- Jase Kraft of Wessington Springs went after the Class B record in the 1600 and came up about a half second short with 4:19.00. He also won the 800 and 3200.

 
- The Sioux Falls Christian girls dominated the Class A meet and scored a record in the 4x400 when they ran 3:59.52. They also broke a 30-year sprint medley record with 4:14.72.

 
- Zach Schroeder of Dell Rapids ran 11.06 and 22.82 to sweep the sprints in the Class A meet.


- Will Lauer of Sioux Falls Lincoln broke the Class AA meet record in the 3,200 meters with 8:58.49.


- Jacob Simmons of Sturgis Brown broke the Class AA meet record in the 800 meters with 1:52.38 and also won the 1,600 meters in 4:17.95.


- Damian Hall of Spearfish dominated the Class AA 100 and 200 with times of 10.77 and 21.77 (nwi).

 

- Talon Maxon of Rapid City Central won the Class AA 110 hurdles with a meet record 14.15 seconds.

 

- Alaina Klapperich of Rapid City Central won the Class AA girls 100 meters with 12.04 seconds (nwi). She held off eighth grade teammate Hannah Young (12.05).

 

- Freshman Jasmyne Cooper form Sioux Falls Lincoln won the Class AA girls 800 meters in 2:12.72. She also won the 1,600 in 5:09.52.

 

- Sydney Palmer from Riggs (Pierre) won the Class AA shot put with 43-3.50.


- Wes Dvorak, a senior from Ethan/Parkston, won the Class A 110 hurdles (14.54), the 300 hurdles (38.70) and the long jump (22-5).


- Landon Larson from Groton Area won the Class A 100 (10.89), 200 (22.33) and 400 (50.26).


- Freshman Tori Glazier from Custer won the Class A 800 meters in 2:15.12 for meet record and also won the 1,600 in 5:09.76. She also anchored the meet-record sprint medley relay (4:13.23).


- Sophomore Macy Heinz of Ipswich posted an amazing quadruple in Class B – winning the girls 200 (25.10), 400 (57.87) 800 (2:15.17, meet record) and 1,600 (5:18.02). She already has 16 state titles.


- In Class B, Brennan Schmidt of Freeman was the big story. He broke three meet records in taking the 100 (10.93) and 200 (21.99) and 400 (47.54 prelim, 49.25 final). He also anchored the winning 4x400 relay.



Top Teams:
Sioux Falls Roosevelt unseated Sioux Falls Lincoln as the top boys team in the state, outscoring their rivals 129 to 102. Rapid City Stevens scored 105.5 points to defend the girls title, but it was a close battle with Brandon Valley (103).

 


In Class A, the Sioux Falls Roosevelt boys and St. Thomas More girls won the team titles handily. In Class B, the Platte-Geddes boys won the title and the Ipswich girls were big winners again.
