Alabama

Mountain Brook traveled into Texas for the Lovejoy XC Fall Festival in McKinney (outside Dallas). The boys placed fourth in the elite division team standings, with Charlie Slaughter (16:08) and Hunter Harwell (16:09) leading the way in seventh and ninth, respectively. The girls also placed fourth and Anna Grace Morgan was fifth overall in 18:47.

  

Alaska

The Alaska state meet is this coming weekend.

Regional state qualifying meets dominated the action around the state. Gus Schumacher of Service ran the fastest 5K in the state so far this season with 15:41 at the Region IV meet. The West Anchorage boys are poised to to do well at state after scoring 30 points at Region IV, which is on the Bartlett Trails state meet course. Freshman Sadie Tuckwood from Juneau Douglas won the Region V meet in a state-leading time of 18:12.5. She won by 57 seconds.

 

Arizona

Sophomore Morgan Foster from Chandler ran 17:36.5 for three miles at the Doug Conley Invitational in Tempe. Highland scored 82 points to take the team win. 

Michael Barney from Saguaro ran 14:49.5 to take the boys elite race by four seconds over Santiago Hardy of Chinle. Brophy Prep won the team title with 102 points.

 

Arkansas

The Rogers boys won the Crimson Division team title at the Rim Rock Farm XC Classic in Kansas, scoring 104 points. Diego Contreras was third in the race in 16:48.2. The Rogers girls were fifth in the same division.  

The Bentonville girls placed second at the OSU Cowboy Jamboree.

 

California

Jack Landgraf of Dana Hills ran 14:33.8 for three miles to cruise away with the Dana Hills Nike Invitational. And he led the Dolphins to the team title with 66 points, ahead of Brea Olinda (84) and Great Oak 'B' (107). La Costa Canyon teammates McKenna Brown (17:02.9) and Kristin Fahy (17:03.9) went 1-2 in the girls race but Canyon of Anaheim won the team title with 74 points.

At the Bell-Jeff Invitational, Andrew Mitchell of Desert Christian ran 14:25.1 over 2.94 miles at Griffith Park for an impressive win over Loyola's Charlie Sherman (14:35.1). Sherman, however, led Loyola to a very strong 29 points total for the team win. Palisades Charter won the girls title by six points over Arroyo (88-94) and Lizette Castro of Arroyo had the fastest time, 18:15.7.

Colorado

Tanner Norman of The Classical Academy ran 15:42 for 5K at Elmwood Golf Course in the Pueblo Central Invitational. (Elevation: 4700 feet). Alamosa scored 51 points to win the boys team title. 

Mathilde Bernard of Rampart won the girls varsity race in 19:30. Classical won the team title with 51 points. 

 

Connecticut

Shane Henderson from Old Saybrook, a sophomore, ran 16:02 to win the Going To The Sun Invitational at Coginchaug High School. He won by 32 seconds. East Catholic, however, put five in the top nine and scored 33 points for the win.

Emily Sienna from Hale Ray, also a sophomore, won the girls varsity race by 63 seconds in 19:18.9.

 

Delaware

Lydia Olivere from Padua Academy came up with a huge performance at the Carlisle Invitational in Pennsylvania, running 17:22 and defeating Downingtown West's Aislinn Devlin by 22 seconds. 

  

District of Columbia

Harry Monroe of Gonzaga College ran 15:21 for third place in the senior race at the flighted DCXC Invitational at Kenilworth Park. Gonzaga College won the senior race with 40 points, edging out Thomas Jefferson S&T VA by one point.

Freshman Megan Lynch of Georgetown Visitation ran 18:10 to win the freshman class varsity race by 16 seconds. It was the fourth-fastest time at the meet overall for girls.

 

Florida

Belen Jesuit Prep turned the tables on St. Thomas Aquinas, beating their rivals 119-139 at the University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational a week after losing to the Raiders. Joshua Collins led the effort for Belen, winning  in 15:44.8.

The race produced a dramatic finish for Bucholz senior Calum McFetridge, who collapsed in the final straightaway. DyeStatFL captured video of the finish, and teammate Brandon Mayo, who encouraged his teammate to finish the race.

Amanda Beach from Melbourne Central Catholic won the girls race in 18:28.8. George Steinbrenner's girls scored 65 points for the team win. 

Bailey Hertenstein of Riverview ran a season best time of 17:54.3 at the North Port Invitational. She won by 46 seconds. 

At the Katie Caples Invitational, the Bolles boys edged Chiles, 65-79. Sophomore Charles Hicks ran 15:49 for the win. In the girls elite race, Bolles beat Chiles, 32-59. Kayley Delay from Fletcher ran 17:55 to win.

Georgia

At the Wingfoot Classic, Liz Galarza of West Forsyth edged out Kaylee DuPont of South Forsyth 18:16.8 to 18:16.9 for second place behind Saratoga Springs NY star Kelsey Chmiel. It was the third weekend in a row where Galarza and DuPont were separated by a slim margin but the first one where Galarza beat DuPont. Milton placed second behind Saratoga Springs NY with 106 points and South Forsyth was third with 111.

Chase Kennedy from East Jackson won the boys championship race with 15:32.8. Blessed Trinity won a close team battle with 134 points. 

  

Hawaii

At the Hawaii Prep Academy Invitational, the Iolani boys edged out Punahou 52-54 on a 5K layout. Connor Lehl of Punahou edged out Colby Otero of Kalaheo by less than a second as they both dipped under 18 minutes. 

Seabury Hall's girls beat Punahou 33-36 to claim the girls title. Jordan Jones ran 21:49.3 on the tough course to win by nearly three seconds over Seabury Hall's Ava Shipman

 

Idaho

Mountain View freshman Lexy Halladay had a coming out party at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota, winning the the top girls race in 18:37.9. Halladay ran 2:14 and 4:46 for the 800/1600 in middle school and proved that she has the strength for the 5,000 meters as well. Mountain View placed second in the team standings behind Edina MN.

Meanwhile, at the Bob Firman Invitational, Boise sophomore Eve Jensen placed fifth in the elite girls race in 18:03. Eagle was the top placing Idaho team, taking eighth. RACE VIDEOS

Austin Byrer from Lewiston was sixth in the elite boys race in 15:34.7, while Borah's Siyad Matan was eighth in 15:36.6. 

  

Illinois

Lyons scored 36 points and Danny Kilrea led teammate Vince Zona in a 1-2 finish at the Culver Invite in Indiana.

Indiana

Sarah Leinheiser led Carmel to an incredible 17 points at the Culver Invitational as the Greyhound girls went 1-2-3-5-6. Leinheiser ran 17:51.1 and won by more than half a minute. It was also 16 seconds faster than Leinheiser ran here a year ago.

 

Iowa

The Johnston girls ran without two of their top five but still managed to pull  down sixth place in the Gold Division of the Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota. Jessica McKee ran 19:49.8 for 21st place to lead the team.  

 

Kansas

Cailie Logue from Girard ran 17:35.4 in the Blue Division race, which was the fastest time of the day for girls at the Rim Rock Farm XC Classic. Emily Venters of Lawrence Free State won the more competitive Gold Division race, for the biggest schools, in 18:07.6. St. James Academy won the girls Gold title with 179 points.

St. Thomas Aquinas, led by Will Cole's third place finish in 15:48.1, finished second in the boys standings behind College Park TX.

 

Kentucky

Kaitlyn Lacy from Louisville Male came up big at the Palatine Invitational in Illinois, covering three miles at Deer Grove Forest Preserve in 17:02. Assumption finished 16th in the team standings, Male was 17th.

St. Xavier of Louisville was second in boys team standings at Palatine with 143 points. Patrick Schaefer ran 15:03.5 for 17th place but the Tigers' 2-5 guys finished within four seconds of one another (15:21-25). 

Yared Nuguse of DuPont Manual placed third at the Centerville Saturday Night Lights and ran a new season's best time of 15:19.1 on the fast, flat 5K course. Alena Sapienza-Wright, also from DM, placed fourth in the girls race in 17:58.8. 

 

Louisiana

Noah Elder from Mandeville placed third at the Gulf Coast Stampede in Pensacola, Fla. He ran 16:51.9. Charley Chehardy was ninth in the girls race.

 

Maine

Tia Tardy of Mount Desert Island won the girls race at the Old Town Sectional Invitational in 19:03.4. She had a winning margin of 48 seconds. Caribou edged out Orono by three points to win the team title. 

The Orono boys put five in the top eight to win handily. 

 

Maryland

At the Spiked Shoe Invitational in Stevenson, the Dulaney boys scored 80 points in the morning varsity section. Junior Kieran McDermott of Bel Air won the race in 15:44.7. Kelly Wesolowski from Hereford won the girls race in 18:24.90 and had a margin of 37 seconds over second place. She led Hereford to second place in the team standings behind Strath Haven PA. 

Jay Hall from Westlake finished second in the junior class race at the DCXC Invitational in Washington, D.C., running a season's best time of 15:26.

Junior Dalton Hengst from McDonogh placed seventh at the Carlisle Invitational in Pennsylvania, clocking 15:37. 

 

Massachusetts

Ben Kovacs led St. John's to the team title at the Ocean State Invitational, placing fourth in 15:52.6. St. John's scored 76 points. 

Grace Connolly from Natick won the girls championship race in 18:00.1 and was 28 seconds clear of the field at the finish. Tewksbury finished second in the girls team standings.

Lucas Arumburu from Brookline won the large school boys race at the Manchester Invitational in New Hampshire, running 15:46. 

Milton's girls won the Bowdoin Park Classic in New York with 24 points, putting five runners in the top 10.

 

Michigan

Mitchell Day of Alpena, a senior, ran 15:13 for 5k at Ella Sharp Park in the Jackson Varsity Invitational. Brother Rice scored 88 points to win the D1 boys team title.

Maggie Farrell of Battle Creek Lakeview, a senior, won the D1 race in 17:22. Birmingham Seaholm won the D1 girls team title over Ann Arbor Pioneer and Northville with 77 points.

 

Minnesota 

Two of the biggest meets in the country over the weekend took place in Minnesota. 

The Roy Griak Invitational, which drew out-of-state competition, saw the Wayzata boys and Edina girls rise to the top and defend home turf. Wayzata scored 91 pointst to outpace Claremont CA (123) and Edina won the girls competition with 97 points.

Seth Eliason from Hopkins placed third overall on the challenging course with 16:22.5, just ahead of Wayzata's Khalid Hussein (16:22.7). Muddy conditions made the course slower than previous years.

Eighth grader Tierney Wolfgram, of Math & Science Academy, ran to fourth place in 19:17.2. Emily Covert of Minneapolis Washburn was sixth.

At the Milaca Mega Meet, Alex Miley from Maple Grove ran 15:53.1 to win the 4A varsity race, while Stillwater Area won the team title with 79 points. Miley was the only runner to break 16 minutes.

Brynnan Covington from Perham was the fastest girl of the meet, running 18:57.5 in the 2A varsity race. 

 

Mississippi

The Ocean Springs girls placed fourth and the boys were eighth at the Gulf Coast Stampede in Pensacola, Fla. Andrea Wheeler led the girls team with her 14th place finish.

 

Missouri

Victor Mugeche from Blue Springs won the top boys race at the Rim Rock Farm XC Classic in Kansas, running 15:37.7. He led Blue Springs to a third place team finish.

 

Montana

Tiahna Vladic from Billings Senior continued her victory march through the season with another big win at the Mountain West Classic in Missoula. She covered three miles in 17:04.7 and beat Ella Degrandpre from Hellgate by more than 20 seconds. Glacier star Annie Hill was running with Vladic for a portion of the race before falling back and finishing 12th. Bozeman won the girls team title with 57 points.

Chase Equall led the Bozeman boys, picking up the individual victory in 14:59 and leading a Hawks victory (62 points). The Bozeman top five had a 55-second spread.

 

Nebraska

Seth Hirsch of Millard West ran a sensational time of 15:44.8 to dominate the featured race at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota. His time was 13 seconds faster than he ran last year on the way to fourth place.

 

Nevada

At the Reed Invitational in Sparks, the Spanish Springs boys continued their Northern domination with a 39-point win over Galena. Reed senior Anthony Ocegueda placed first with a 16:33 (5K).  For the girls, Reno won by 13 points over Damonte Ranch.  Damonte’s Erin Moyer won with a 19:37.

At the Falcon Invitational at Foothill HS (Henderson) Centennial’s Alexis Gourrier set a course record winning the Junior-Senior Division in 18:30 (5k). Centennial’s girls scored 18 points to win the division. Durango’s Frankie Bisacky won his first invitational ever, running 16:19 to win the Junior-Senior Boys Division. Basic won the Division by two points over Coronado.

Palo Verde and Arbor View traveled to the Dana Hills Nike Invitational. Arbor View’s Ian Jackson placed ninth in the Division I Senior Boys Division with a 14:52 (3 miles).  In the Division II Senior Girls Division, Palo Verde’s Emma Wahlenmaier placed second in 17:35. Palo Verde’s Daniel Ziems placed sixth in the Division II Senior Division (15:17)

McQueen made the trip to Idaho for the Bob Firman Invitational.  Running in the Elite Division, Henry Weisberg placed 10th in 15:38 (5k).

New Hampshire

Jacqueline Gaughan of Exeter won the large school girls race at the Manchester Invitational in 18:08 and won by 18 seconds. Coe-Brown finished second to Champlain Valley VT (101-151). 

Chris Zaino of Londonderry was third in the boys race with 16:05. Concord won the team title with 90 points and Nashua North was fourth.

 

New Jersey

David Rosas led Don Bosco Prep to the team title at the Carlisle Invitational in Pennsylvania. He ran 15:20 for fourth place as the team went 4-5-12 up front and scored 111 points for a 30-point winning margin.

Christian Brothers Academy scored 31 points to win the Varsity 1 race at the Bowdoin Park Classic in New York, while Colts Neck scored 68 points to claim the Varsity 2 team title. Rey Rivera from Old Bridge ran 16:06.6 for second place in the Varsity 2 race. 

Matt Grossman from Millburn opened his season with a 15:29 outing at the Steward Memorial in Morris Plains. He won by 25 seconds. North Hunterdon won the team competition with 60 points. Katie Delidow of Millburn won the girls race in 19:03.5 and Middletown South scored 73 points to take the girls team title.

At Six Flags Wild Safari, Indian Hills put together a sensational effort with five guys in the top six of the Varsity B race, led by Steven Fiumefreddo (15:52). Freshman Jade Tricomy of Toms River North was the fastest girl at the meet, running 18:09.

 

New Mexico

Jordan Lesansee ran personal record 15:10.1 at the Albuquerque Academy Invitational and led the Chargers to a home victory with 50 points. Eldorado was second with 67 points.

Amanda Mayoral from Cleveland won the girls race in 18:22.4. Rio Rancho took the team honors with 36 points.

 

New York

Sophomore Kelsey Chmiel of Saratoga Springs ran a dominating 17:17.6 5K to beat the field by nearly a minute at the Wingfoot Classic Cartersville, Ga.  Saratoga Springs scored 51 points to win the team title. 

Noah Carey from Guilderland won the boys championship race at the Ocean State Invitational in Rhode Island, clocking 15:30.6. Teammate Noah Tindale was third.

Bowdoin Park Classic saw Caroline Timm of Our Lady of Lourdes win the Varsity 1 race in 18:58.8. PHOTOS by John Nepolitan

Corning defeated the Fayetteville-Manlius boys at the McDaniel-Baxter Invitational, 49-85, in the Varsity Boys Race 7. Senior Kevin Moshier ran 15:41.6 for the fastest time of the day. Jessica Lawson of Corning ran 17:26.4 for a huge performance and she beat North Rockland freshman Katelybn Tuohy by 19 seconds. The US#1 F-M girls scored 20 points to win Varsity Girls Race 8.

 

North Carolina

A 1-2 finish by Katherine Dokholyan (18:56) and Clare McNamara (19:01.7) helped carry Chapel Hill to a 37-41 victory over Green Hope at the Greensboro Invitiational

The boys from Charles Jordan Senior took top honors with 78 points, edging out RJ Reynolds. Ian Shanklin from Page ran 15:49.7 for the individual victory.

 

North Dakota

Karly Ackley of Grand Forks Central placed second at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota, running 18:57.1. Mattie Shirley-Fairbairn from Bismarck was ninth in 19:27. 

At the Milaca Mega Meet, also in Minnesota, the Red River boys placed eight in the 4A Varsity race. Ben Hutchinson of Red River was fourth in that race, in 16:16.5.

 

Ohio

Arjun Jha of Thomas Worthington ran 15:05.2 to win the Centerville Saturday Night Lights. It was the second big win in a row for Jha, who won at Trinity Valkyrie in Kentucky last week. Thomas Worthington also won the team title with 81 points.

India Johnson from Hilliard Davidson also won for the second straight week, taking the girls varsity race in 17:13.6. Morgan Gigandet of Troy was second in 17:27.4. Woodridge scored 133 points to unseat defending champion Centerville (142). 

 

Oklahoma

Edmond Memorial won the boys title at the OSU Cowboy Jamboree with 114 points, led by Jed Helker's fourth place finish. 

Isai Rodriguez of Lomega won the 4A/3A/2A race in 15:36.1 and was 51 seconds clear of second place.

Cheyenne Walden of Charles Page, the reigning Oklahoma state champion, won the girls large school race by nearly 30 seconds with 18:34.9. Edmond North was the top placing Oklahoma team, taking fifth. 

 

Oregon

It was a big day at Portland Meadows for the Nike Portland XC meet, where top runners from Oregon took on some of the region's best. In the boys Jim Danner championship race, 6A champion Ahmed Muhumed of West Salem placed third in 15:06.6. Sophomore Zane Fodge of McMinnville ran 15:17.6 for seventh. Summit's boys were fourth.

In the girls championship, Sunset sophomore Ember Stratton finished second in a great race against Jordan Oakes from Washington. Stratton finished seven seconds back, in 17:34.5. Sunset finished second as a team with 92 points and Summit, running without leader Olivia Brooks (cold), was third with 103 points. NIKE PORTLAND XC VIDEOS

In Idaho at the Bob Firman Invitational, the Jesuit girls beat Utah powers American Fork and Davis and scored 95 points. The Crusaders put all five scorers in the top 30. Crater placed fifth in the boys elite race, led by Andy Monroe's fifth place finish.

Sophomore Ginger Murnieks of Sprague ran 17:42 to win the Meriwether National Cross Country Classic in Hillsboro. Tualatin prevailed as the team champion with 83 points, led by Kate Intile's second place finish.

Central Catholic's boys put four in the top six and scored 25 points to the team win. Adam Klein of Tualatin ran 15:22.7 for the individual win. 

 

Pennsylvania

Noah Affolder and his younger brother Sam went 1-3 for their new school, Carlisle, at the Carlisle Invitational. Noah Affolder ran 14:47 for the win, beating JP McCaskey's Nathan Henderson by 12 seconds. Sam Affolder, a sophomore, ran 15:17 as the team finished second behind Don Bosco Prep NJ. 

Manheim Township won the girls team title with 109 points. Aislinn Devlin of Downingtown West placed second in the girls race at 17:44.

 

Rhode Island

David Principe Jr of La Salle Academy smashed the course record at the Bowdoin Park Classic with 15:23.3 in the Varsity 2 race. 

At the Ocean State Invitational at Goddard Park, Sam Toolin from North Kingstown placed second in 15:44.9. Randi Burr of Westerly was second in the girls championship, running 18:28.3.

 

South Carolina

John Ward of Wade Hampton won the individual title at the Cavalier Classic with a time of 16:07. Mauldin took the team title. Olivia Evans from Carolina Homeschool was the girls winner in 19:14. Dorman was the girls team champ. 

 

South Dakota

Stevens swept the team titles at the Rapid City Invitational. Daniel Burkhalter from Bison won the boys race in 16:17. Eighth grader Delaney Kost of Rapid City Central won the varsity girls race in 18:57.

  

Tennessee

Ella Baran from Houston won the girls race at the Frank Horton Invitational in 18:17.3 and also led her team to the title with 66 points. 

Despite a 1-2-3 finish for West Plains, Bartlett pulled out the team championship on the boys side. Bartlett scored 75 points, West Plains 79.

 

The Brentwood Academy boys placed eighth at the Palatine Invitational in Illinois.

 

Texas 

College Park traveled to Kansas for the Rim Rock Farm XC Classic where the boys team won the Gold Race with 96 points. They were led by Alessandro Topini with a fifth place finish in 15:57. The girls from College Park were ninth in the girls Gold Race.

Abbey Santoro, a junior from Keller, ran 18:23 at the Keller Classic to lead her team to victory with 20 points.

Jake Johnson from Allen won the boys 5A./6A race at the OSU Cowboy Jamboree in 16:13.6. The Woodlands girls won the team title in Stillwater.

 

Utah 

It was a hugely successful weekend for runners from Utah. 

At Nike Portland XC, Joe Benson led Timpanogos to the team title by pulling away late and winning the boys championship race in 14:54.2 for a new meet record. The Timpanogos girls also won the team championship, making a 19-hour bus trip worthwhile for both squads.

At the Bob Firman Invitational in Idaho, Talon Hull of Weber won the elite boys race in 15:25 and Davis won the team title in a deep field with 84 points. Ogden was third. On the girls side, American Fork and Davis placed second and third, respectively. Whitney Rich from Bingham was second overall in 17:41.4.

At the Nebo Invitational, US#1 American Fork demonstrated its might with a 1-2-3 finish. Casey Clinger led the way with 14:57.8 for three miles. McKay Johns and Patrick Parker were second and third. Mountain View won the girls title with 65 points and Brittany Jones of Lone Peak ran 18:34 for the win. 

 

Vermont

Champlain Valley's girls scored another invitational victory, this time at the Manchester Invitational in New Hampshire. CVU was led by Sophia Gorman's eigth place overall finish (19:03) and the scoring five was separated by 1:19.

Tyler Marshall of CVU was second in the boys race in 15:52 and the team finished second behind Concord MA. 

 

Virginia

Heather Holt of George C. Marshall ran a sensational time of 16:56 for 5K at the DCXC Invitational at Kenilworth Park in Washington, D.C. 

 

Washington

Jordan Oakes of Holy Names pulled away from Sunset OR sophomore Ember Stratton in the final half mile to win the Nike Portland XC meet in 17:27.4 at Portland Meadows. Her race began at noon and she hustled after the race to make a 1:30 p.m. flight from PDX to go a recruiting visit at Harvard.

In the boys race, top Washingtonians Tibebu Proctor of Northwest School (14:56) and James Mwaura of Lincoln (15:07) were second and fourth, respectively.

 

West Virginia

TaShala Turner placed fifth to lead University to a second place team finish at the Carlisle Invitational in Pennsylvania. University finished just two points behind Manheim Township PA (109-111) in the final team standings. Turner ran 18:11.

University's Philip White finished 22nd with 16:00 and the team was 17th out of 27.  

 

Wisconsin

Finn Gessner ran a season-best time of 15:03.5 at the Midwest Invitational in Janesville. Gessner beat Gus Newcomb of Middleton by 20 seconds. Arrowhead won the team title with 108 points, packing four guys between 15th and 21st. 

Freshman Laura Beghin of Wisconsin Dells won the girls race in 18:14.2 for her third invitational win of the month. Sun Prairie scored 61 points to win the team title.

 

Wyoming 

Anna Gibson of Jackson ran a sensational time of 17:32.1 to win the Bob Firman Invitational at Eagle Island State Park in Idaho. That time is more than two minutes faster than Gibson ran at Bob Firman in 2015. Jackson put three girls in the top 22 and finished fourth in a very competitive girls field. Jackson is the two-time defending Class 3A champion in Wyoming.
