Taylor McLaughlin's Passions On and Off the Track CollidePublished by
Michigan's Taylor McLaughlin is Torn Between Passions for Engineering and TrackBy Adam Kopet, DyeStat Editor Michigan sophomore Taylor McLaughlin is making his mark on the track world. Despite often being overlooked because of his younger sister, Sydney McLaughlin, he is a potential track star in the making. McLaughlin, 19, already owns Michigan's 400-meter hurdles school record. He is also the U.S. Junior national champion and silver medalist at the IAAF U20 Championships. However, as MGoBlue.com reports, track has never been McLaughlin's first love. It is engineering. "I came out the womb wanting to be an engineer. I was a Lego kid, for sure," McLaughlin said. As McLaughlin's track career and education advance at Michigan, his two passions are beginning to collide. However, he is clear what is more important to him. "If engineering takes off right after college, I'd rather go into that and run on the side if I can." McLaughlin knows any future he has in track will be fleeting, but he has a plan to follow his final race, whenever that may be. More news |
