TOURNAMENT BRACKETS

Here are summaries of the girls regional semifinals (national quarterfinals):

WEST REGIONAL

Clovis North CA 73, Tualatin OR 63

Tualatin won four of six field events to build a 30-24 advantage heading to the track. It was Clovis North that had the advantage after that. The first-time California state champions took the lead for good after winning the 4x100 relay in 41.15. That was one of Caleb Foster's four events. He also won the 110-meter hurdles, the long jump and triple jump. Andrew Payton won a matchup with Isaiah Galindo in the 800 meters, but Galindo won the 1,600 and 3,200. Mariano Kis of Tualatin won the shot put and discus events, and Sam Katsuda (pole vault) and Duncan Taft (high jump) also posted victories for the Timberwolves. Naythn Scruggs won the 200 and Tyler Ximines captured the 400 to help Clovis North maintain an advantage in both events.

Hopkins MN 95, Cleveland NM 46

Cleveland had played the underdog role in their first two meets putting them in this regional semifinal meet. The Storm's luck ran out against the Minnesota champions. Hopkins took a 32-22 lead after the field events, aided by a 9-0 win in the pole vault, and then rolled from there. Wins were hard to come by for Cleveland, but Anthony Bisetti and Nasir Hunter-Muhammad managed to go 1-2 in the 400 meters. Joe Fahnbulleh (100-200), Eli Hoeft (1,600-3,200) and George Jackson (110H-300H-Long Jump) gave Hopkins everything it needed to cruise into the regional finals.

EAST REGIONAL

Hoover AL 84, Christopher Columbus FL 67

Hoover rolled into the regional finals for the second straight year scoring 41 of its 84 points in the field, including sweeps in the pole vault, long jump and triple jump. Columbus won three contested relays, but gave back some of that advantage with sharp losses in the hurdles. Kennon Johnson and LJ Hill went 1-2 in both the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300-meter intermediates. Owen Marquardt added a win for the Buccaneers in ther 3,200 meters. Kevin Kerjean and Malcolm Brown gave the Explorers a lift with a 1-2 finish in the 800 meters, and Xzavier Henderson and Cameron Daniel were a forceful combination in the 100, 200 and 400.

Christian Brothers NJ 75, Weddington NC 66

Liam O'Hara led CBA's sweeps of the hurdle events, the distance crew wiped out Weddington in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters, and throwers Nicholas Morse and Eros Bottino dominated the shot put and discus. That lethal combination for the Colts proved too much for Weddington and knocked the North Carolina champions out of the tournament.

Weddington won three scored relays -- the 4x100, the 4x400 and the 4x800. Emerson Douds won the 100, 200 and 400 for the Warriors. Kyle Durham won the 800. But whereas, Weddington was able to dominate the distance races against previous opponents, it couldn't matchup with CBA's firepower. Tim McInerney (4:10.97), Shaw Powell (4:11.83) and Luke Reid (4:15.81) were a tough matchup for Weddington's three sub-4:25 guys.
