The Padua Academy girls track and field team continues to find ways to dominate. Competing in summer-like conditions of 90 degree weather, the team rolled to its 10th consecutive Delaware State Outdoor Track and Field title at Dover High (May 20-21). Padua won the Division I title in a meet record of 211.50 points.

Led by Mary Katherine Dorsey’s victories in the  3,200 (11:34.78) and 1,600 meters (5:02.49), Padua had three of the top four spots in the 3,200. Dorsey was also part of the winning 4x400 relay (4:03.15).

The Salesianum boys claimed the Division I title again, scoring an impressive 170 points.

On the track, Sussex Technical’s Maurice Yougendy won the 200 (21.84), 110 hurdles (14.35), and 300 hurdles (38.46).

Matt Gatune of Polytech claimed the 800 (1:53.64) and 1,600 (4:17.24).

In the field events, Salesianum’s Matthew Klous posted a state-leading mark in the pole vault, clearing 14-1.50 to win. Teammate Chris Gulotti won the boys shot put (54-3).

In Division II girls, defending champion St, Mark’s and Tatnall tied for the team title with 167 points. As reported by Delawareonline.com, “it was discovered that an incorrect scoring entry in a field event could have given St. Mark’s an additional, decisive point. Meet officials met for an hour trying to hash out that decision.” But in the end it was ruled a tie, as that was the original official reporting.

St. Mark’s Tiffany Herrera won the 3,200 (11:27.93), and 1,600 (5:12.87). Tatnall captured the 2-4 spots in the 3,200

Ursuline Academy’s Sophie Maguire set a division record in the pole vault, clearing a state-leading mark of 11-3.

The St. Mark’s boys made it a program sweep, claiming the Division II title with 95 points.

Tatnall’s Nicolas Pizarro pulled off an impressive triple, winning the 3,200 (9:52.17) 1,600 (4:28.33) and 800 (1:57.80).

In the field events, St. Mark’s Max Diossi claimed the shot put (54-0.50).
