Mikey Brannigan broke his own World Para Championships record in the 1,500 meters Monday in London by running 3:53.05.

Brannigan, of Long Island, who won gold in the event at the 2015 World Para Athletics Championships and also took gold at last summer's Paralympics in the T-20 category, pulled away to win by two seconds.

Brannigan has more ambitions plans, however. He is also entered in the 800 and 5,000 meters. Brannigan has some time to rest up before the 800 heats Friday and the 5,000 final Sunday.

Recent high school graduate Hunter Woodhall, an Arkansas signee, took the silver medal in the T-43 category of the 400, turning in a time of 47.23. Germany's Johannes Floors won it in 46.67.

American Tatyana McFadden won the women's T-54 400 meters in 53.74 seconds and it came just hours after she won the 1,500 in 3:25.23. She is a wheelchair athlete. Those were the second and third gold medals for McFadden after already claming a victory the 200. In the 200, she shared the podium with her sister, Hannah, who took bronze.
