Top Outdoor Performances Highlight This Week's Performance of the Week ListIt was a busy week around the country with many top athletes starting to show solid early season form. It is still March, but this week's performances point toward fantastic performances later in the season. In addition to top high school and college performances, we saw the pros in action with a stellar shot put in New Zealand and the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships. Caitlin Collier: The high school senior from the Bolles School FL won the 800 meters at the FSU Relays in a US#1 2:04.87. She also won the 1,600 meters in 4:47.61. Sachin Dennis: The St. Elizabeth Technical athlete from Jamaica won his division in the 100 meters at the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships in a world age-15 best of 10.20. DeSoto TX Girls: The quartet of Antoinette Bradley, Ja'Era Griffin, Taylor Armstrong and Jada Laye won the 4x200 relay at the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays in 1:35.43, good for the No. 13 prep all-time performance. Maggie Ewen: The Arizona State senior set the collegiate lead in the hammer throw at the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge with a throw of 237-2 (72.28m). She also stands second on the discus throw list with a mark of 196-10 (60.01m). Netsanet Gudeta: The Ethiopian distance runner won the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in a women-only world record 1:06:11, beating the overall world record holder, Joyciline Jepkosgei, in the process. Geoffrey Kamworor: The Kenyan distance runner won his third straight IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, running 1:00:02, which included a 13:01 5-kilometer split from 15 to 20 kilometers. Jacob McLeod: The high school senior from Trinity Christian GA won the 3,200 meters at the FSU Relays in 8:52.70. He also finished third in the 1,600 meters in 4:14.18. Khallifah Rosser: The Cal State Los Angeles senior broke his own meet record in the 400-meter hurdles at the 40th Aztec Invitational, running a collegiate leading 49.61. Tom Walsh: The New Zealand shot putter moved up to sixth on the world all-time list at 74-4.50 (22.67m) at an event in Auckland. It is the farthest throw in 15 years and bested Ryan Crouser's top mark by less than an inch. The Woodlands TX Boys: The quartet of DeAngelo Alexander, Jake Lanier, Ethan Bonner and KeSean Carter won the 4x200 relay at the Rice Victor Lopez Classic in a US#1 1:24.49. More news |
